Right now I’m getting ready for the first of three flights that will take me back to Nepal.
Over the last eight months, I have shed some weight and gained some fitness and now my body is in not quite peak physical form to tackle the mountains. The plan is to stay a few days in Kathmandu and then take a bus to Jiri, walk from there to Namche Bazaar and on to Chukung, Everest Base Camp and Gokyo before returning to Namche for a few days of rest. After that, it’s either a flight back from Lukla to Kathmandu or if I feel up to it, a walk out to Tumlingtar via the Arun valley, a trek I last did 30 years ago. All this should take six to seven weeks which leaves me a month to go sightseeing in other places around the country or if I feel like more walking do another jaunt of the Annapurna Circuit and see if it is still possible to do that once magnificent trek without being in constant earshot of the road.
I’ll keep you posted but first I’ve got a plane to catch.
