There are two ways of obtaining a visa for Nepal. You can get your visa from a Nepalese Diplomatic Mission abroad it has a six months tenability and your total stay is counted starting from the day you enter the country. Alternatively, a visa can be obtained on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu and at border entry points in Kakadvitta, Birgunj, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Gaddachowki on the Nepal-India border and Kodari on the Nepal-China border.
Visas must be paid for in cash in one of the following currency: Euro, Swiss Franc, Pound Sterling, US Dollar, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar and Japanese Yen. Credit cards, Indian currency, and Nepali currency are not accepted as payment. The cost of a visa depends on your intended length of stay in Nepal and are priced as follows;
15 Days – 25 USD
30 Days – 40 USD
90 Days – 100 USD
Tourists can stay for a maximum of 150 days in a visa year (Jan 1 to Dec 31) at 2 USD per day after their original 90 day visa.
Exceptions to this are citizens from India, who do not require a visa and Chinese citizens who will be issued a free visa from the following Nepali Missions in China.

In addition, no visas are required for Children below 10 years and citizens from SAARC countries (except Afghanistan) visiting Nepal for the first time in a given visa Year and for a duration of no more than 30 days. This can be extended at the Department of Immigration after payment of the regular visa extention fees.
Nationals from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan will need to obtain a visa from Nepali Diplomatic Missions in their respective countries, as they do not get a visa on arrival in Nepal.

Hi Eric, i have discovered your website in Tripadvisor. Thinking of travelling to Nepal next mid-Feb for about 11-15 days, but i am a woman and will likely go there alone. interested in the Nature and moderate trekking. What would be the most suitable arrangement for me with a reasonable budget? Would it be a good period to visit? How about safety for a woman alone?

Nepal is a friendly country and even the big cities are quite safe for a woman alone. The middle of February will still be quite cool but it’s one of my favorite times of the year to go hiking in Nepal. For a modest introduction to trekking in the Himalaya you could consider a circuit taking in Poonhill, Chorong, and Landruk this will take you five to six days and can be done without the need to engage a guide or porter. As for a budget, I would allow about USD30 per day while trekking and about USD50 per day while in the cities.
